Quantum Physics and Acupuncture: Movement, Balance, and the Power of Emptiness
How do quantum physics and acupuncture connect? Through the immense potential granted by both paradigms to the power of emptiness. Interesting fact: acupuncture points demonstrate a decrease in electrical skin resistance at their traditional localizations in comparison with nearby anatomical zones. (This can be easily measured in clinical practice with a commonly used device called an electrical stimulator, using the 'probe' function) These energy holes or 'wells', as described by traditional literature, echo the most recent data reported by quantum physics. This emerging formulation of physics explains that emptiness is at the basis of all forces in the universe; attraction and expansion being caused by gravitational fields around bottomless voids, holes (commonly called black holes. See: Hubert Reeves, Stardust)
Emptiness also comes up frequently when explaining other multi-millennial processes of meditation or visualization that bring profound healing. These processes explain that an internal void must be created to receive illumination or the realization of our true nature and our genuine intentions. On a physical level, we humans are beings very much in the image of our universe, which contains mostly emptiness. Like it, we are formed of more than 99% void! It is the movement of our tiny particles around the void that gives us the impression of being solid and full. It is probably thus that finding our true essence is intrinsically linked to the fact of creating an internal void, a state at the very center of our makeup.
Promoting movement fosters health and creating a void gives birth to this movement in all its power. The theory of Oriental traditional medicine and its clinical practice both illustrate how this movement is at the center of healing. The practice of traditional acupuncture treats imbalances in a fundamental way by tracing a stagnation in the circulation of a meridian (physiological line of force). The restoration of circulation in this meridian through the therapeutic movement of the patient's qi (vital energy) then promotes the return to health and balance. Patients who experience profound transformations during an acupuncture treatment often notice and express, sometimes in an astonished tone, the course of a movement of forces in varied directions, which can be upward, downward, inward or outward. Another frequent comment, at the moment of needle insertion, is the sensation of a movement felt from the center of the body toward the extremities. Or toward the bottom of the body, or the top, or inward, depending on the therapeutic orientation of the treatment. These sensations are often pleasant and always unique!
