Discreet Acupressure Technique to Relax in the Heat of Action

Demonstration by Olivier Roy, acupuncturist, of acupressure treatment on the point of "the Inner Gate," Neiguan (PC 6). This is a point located on the Pericardium meridian that functions to relax the chest and solar plexus. It is one of the most frequently used acupuncture points in clinical practice, due to the variety of indications associated with its stimulation.

The point is located at the center of the forearm, one palm width distal to the wrist flexion crease. Stimulation consists of applying pressure until reaching the pain threshold, then releasing while performing rotations, and finally repeating 10 to 15 times. You can begin with the left side, the side of the heart, then treat the right side as needed. The exercise can be performed anytime and anywhere. It is also a method that goes unnoticed and can therefore be used at will.

This is the same reflex zone that anti-nausea bracelets aim to stimulate. You can quickly feel the effect of stimulation on this point. It can serve to defuse a real-time anxiety or panic attack. Its opening effect on the chest also justifies its use in cases of chest tension, breathing difficulties due to anxiety, etc.

In the Ayurvedic tradition, there exists a point with indications similar to the one demonstrated above, which is also used in acupressure: it is likewise located at the center of the inner forearm, but approximately at the midpoint along the length, between the wrist and elbow flexion creases. This Ayurvedic point, also called a "marma," also acts on the nervous system, and additionally as a "fountain of youth," through its anti-aging effect!
